Digitising Medicines Information Report

In November 2021, YewMaker hosted a Sustainable Medicines Partnership Roundtable on Roadmapping the Transition to Digital Medicines Information.

Every medicine box currently includes a paper information leaflet to inform patients about the medicine. This system does not serve people well enough and uses huge resources - over 100 billion leaflets are made every year.

The focus of our Roundtable was to discuss how to transition to a system of patient-centred digital information being the primary format, whilst ensuring that everyone retains access to the information.

There were 43 participants representing patients, healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, policy and academia, and the discussions were vibrant and constructive.

The Roundtable delivered three top takeaways. These informed the design of the SMP Digitising Medicines Information Project, which we are starting now.

Today we are making the Roundtable Report freely available.

The Roundtable was well received, 100% of survey respondents found it useful, and the feedback was very positive. This is one of our favourite quotes - it exemplifies the ethos of the SMP.

Great small group discussions. All perspectives honored and included.
